WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that
whistleblower protections in a federal
law passed in response to the Enron financial scandal
apply broadly to employees of publicly traded companies and contractors hired by the companies.
Although there has not yet been resolution as to whether the
whistleblower protections of these
laws apply to the claimants themselves, the «bounty» offered by the SEC to these potential claimants is perceived as attractive enough to continue their momentum.
The sequestration reduction will unfortunately continue to be
applied to
whistleblower payments unless and until a
law is enacted that cancels or changes the sequester or a court decides that it is improper.
