The
paintings are bisected near their edges by vertical and horizontal bands of
white, and
here and there with bits of
color (see illustration above).
Other thematically unrelated but visually cohesive works include a trio of Early Modernist knockoffs from the mid-1980s by Sherrie Levine, which remain conceptually irritating but
here look refreshingly, crisply graphic; a 45 - minute video from 1994 by Gary Hill; a 2009
color photograph of a child in a
white Levi's t - shirt by Josephine Pryde; some bundled pseudo-newspapers by Robert Gober (1992) and, in a collaboration between Gober and Christopher Wool, a photograph of a girl's dress hanging in a tree (the dress presumably Gober's handiwork; the photograph, Wool's), near one of the latter's enamel - on - aluminum pattern
paintings.
Here it comes in the form of a pale, 1960s Wallace Berman image of the moon's remote surface overlaid with cryptic writing; a black - and -
white Vija Celmins screen - print of the vast, horizonless ocean that appears to carry a faint «X,» as if the printing plate had been canceled; a ragged piece of fiberglass
painted with a Tiepelo - like sky by Joe Goode, who seems to have ripped it from either the actual heavens above or a movie - studio set; and a photographic close - up of shifting desert sand, over which actual sand and
colored pigment has been applied by David Benjamin Sherry, as if reality were a veil obscuring camera - created truth in our mediated universe.
Here white obliterates not only previous states of the
painting, but any oomph they may have had as
color.
April Gornik often uses
color in her landscape
paintings, again as separation, but
here she shows the advantage of black and
white alone with her theatrical charcoal on paper landscapes.
A couple of early
paintings here show how much he was in its sway, particularly «Susanna and the Elders» (1953), a de Kooning-esque romp of bold, energetic forms in black and
white marching diagonally across the canvas, attended
here and there by tiny licks of flamelike
color.

white coffee mugs, porcelain
paint in the
colors of your choice, a thin paintbrush and a cup of water.
Besides the new wall that was installed (more to come on that), we've
painted the swine -
colored walls and fireplace (Simply
White Benjamin Moore), added some trim around the fireplace (to fill in big gaps between the brick and the drywall), removed the pink blinds (still thinking about what blinds we'd want down
here) and installed the new Mohawk flooring.
I used 4
colors of craft
paint (only 3 shown
here)-- metallic silver, gray, pearl
white and black.
We're going to
paint it Simply
White so that it's the same
color as the other walls and looks like it's always been
here, but natural wood can be a fun tone too!

I've had several requests to photograph the formula on the top of the custom
paint color I used in my Kitchen... so
here ya go!It's mixed into an «Ultra Pure
White» base.
Conventional wisdom dictates
white on wainscoting and
color overhead, but
here, that combination is flipped; the owner
painted the trim in her master bathroom a (custom - blended) mossy green and the upper walls ivory.

Our go - to
paint color for refreshing a space is Super
White by Benjamin Moore, and it definitely did the trick
here.
While some might tell you that all -
white rooms are the key to stretching a small space, we're
here to tell you that no matter what
paint you go with, the effect of
color is a lot more nuanced than that.
