tiles, even though I was also
really tempted by their Hexagon
tiles, but I felt like subway
tiles were something I would love for years.
Initially the bright
white tiles looked
really clean and sparkling new, almost a little too new in that model home kind of way.
I love how the
white sink and backsplash
really compliment the dark gray counters and that the
tile extends all the way down to the counters.
If you are doing a simple black and
white check like I did there are
really only two options — starting with black, or starting with
white (but, if you go with color or patterned
tiles then there is a lot more creative freedom, or you could get your stripe on like Orlando did in his old kitchen).

White grout is a pain to keep clean anyway, and the darker grout lines would
really show off the pattern on the
tile.
