For instance, dark wax is used when you want to antique and deepen the color,
white wax softens the look and tones down the color and clear wax is just for protection... it doesn't alter the color at all.

I used Annie Sloan's
white paste
wax to seal the drawer fronts, and to
soften some of my brush strokes.
So it is
softened with a solvent (ours is
white spirits) that allows the
wax to be easily applied.
I dry brushed the paddles with some Paris Grey and Pure
White and I did end up putting
wax on them, not because they needed
waxing, but because the
wax softened the look a bit.
