My understanding is that usually these houses are smaller, like one I'm doing now, an 1100 sq ft 3 bed ranch, where the only non-bedroom or
kitchen room is the living
room, which is probably 10» by 15» in size, not very big if you want to have the
whole family over for instance.
This year with all the remodeling coming to a close, but not yet 100 % finished (our
kitchen and
family room is being painted as I write and that means our
whole first floor is a jumble of furniture and
kitchen contents!)
An ex-boyfriend's
family had a castle in Ireland (where I'm from) and the vast two -
room kitchen also had a roomy pantry (not much smaller than my
whole kitchen now!)
Of course it was single pane and unusable, but it made us think... why not take this

In our home, we also put in extras like additional space in our eat - in -

whole long story about how this green carpet went up the stairs and down the hallway towards the bedrooms but the bedrooms have neutral carpet that didn't need replacing and that the green carpet was also in the office, living

room but we have hardwood floors in the
kitchen, slate in the entry / hallway / downstairs bathroom / laundry
room and fairly new carpet in the
family room meaning our home essentially had flooring schizophrenia and I just couldn't figure out how to make the most of our budget and still get the look I wanted.

kitchen are the same yellowy taupe so I think it would add some color in here.
This
whole wall works so well to complement the style of our
kitchen and
family room, without shouting at me or calling too much attention to itself.
The
whole house had orange stained oak woodwork and floors, some tile floors, ivory carpeting, a red brick fireplace in the
family room, some stained glass windows, many oak built - ins, a large
kitchen with oak cabinetry and 1980s appliances, bathrooms with huge tub decks, hair dryers in bathrooms that were attached to the walls, and even a bidet.
Our
whole family loves how cozy the
kitchen is now, and the move gave extra
room to our cramped dining area, which now looks so much larger!
