August means the end of summer and the start of
a whole new school year.

Anne is off to middle
school — a
whole new world, Joe is headed to grade four, Evie is ready for grade one, and Maggie has just one more
year at home before preschool next fall (not that I'm counting down...).
It's been simple living at it's best, and we're ready to head home and face the final few weeks of summer before
school and a

new routines begin (we'll have two highschoolers in the house this
year!).

The start of a
new school year means the start of a
whole new year of
school lunches.
Interest groups expect the agreement to be somewhere between relaxing
whole grain and future sodium requirements, as proposed by Sen. John Hoeven (R - N.D.), and a one -
year waiver from all
new standards for
schools losing money, as proposed by Rep. Robert Aderholt (R - Ala.).
It's only day four of my son's
new school year and I already feel a bit defeated by the
whole lunchbox packing thing.

One of the most challenging aspects of implementing and sustaining any

school program is changes in staff personnel and responsibilities, especially at the start of a

So we have to make sure each child goes outside of his / her comfort zone and speaks and listens to every child in the classroom on a regular basis (I cringe to think of my days as a

Although a comprehensive focus on social and emotional learning (SEL) is
new to Atlanta Public
