biology,» which deals with
wholes of increasing complexity in the organization of interrelated parts rather than with discrete and isolated segments, especially in molecular
biology and the growing field of ecology, with its discoveries about the basic interdependence of living
organisms with other living
organisms and with its larger environmental context, have further undermined these traditions assumptions.
