The
whole movie is
terrific fun.
The cast is
terrific, and there are a couple of sequences that made me laugh out loud, but the
movie as a
whole is baffling.
While the
movie as a
whole didn't blow me away, two elements did: Ben Foster is simply
terrific as the policeman, stealing every scene he's in, and the original score by Daniel Hart is one of my favorite of the year.
But as off - kilter affecting as we found its nostalgia for a world of charm and dash that really only ever existed in the
movies, and as
terrific as almost all of the performances are, as a
whole package it fell just slightly short of the promise of its parts.
