of the movement had shifted to the color -
field and abstract imagist painters,
whose followers in the 1960s rebelled against the irrationality
of the
Action painters.

whose leading members included Jackson Pollock and Willem De Kooning; and the more passive style
of Colour

of Abstract Expressionism,
whose style went from gestural (
action - painting) to plane - work (colour
field painting) to sharply defined geometrical planes and patterns (hard edge painting) to Minimal Art.
