of ideas on how shifts in the curatorial craft are woven through Documenta's past, present, and future, and through the event's relationship to the

A new translation
of his essays, «Geochemistry and the Biosphere» (Synergetic Press) is worth scanning for more
of his prescient thinking, which took the
idea forward toward what he called «noösphere,» or Earth becoming a «planet
of the mind» (some see hints
of the
World Wide Web and Google Earth in all
of this).
I am not yet in my 40's but was raised in a very alternative community
of people in nyc in the 70's and 80's... amidst the depression
of the city at that time, there were tons
of free - thinking individuals, groups and companies leading the way presenting biofuel - concepts and
ideas, or promoting industries based on recycling things rather than being a disposable society... there have always been large numbers
of people in the pro-environment movement country and
world -
wide that cried out about how alternative thinking would lead to newer, more positive and less harmfully - impacting industries and tried to introduce inventions that could have spurred new economies... Had the auto industry not blocked things, we could have had more energy efficient cars decades ago... but they did not want the «expense»
of helping foster this new industry... it is so damn sad it took a war to make people «wake up» about alternative fuels and how exciting the options are.
The bottom line is probably that whilst we should take the
idea of sudden changes seriously, and investigate possibilities within the scientific arena, it wouldn't work to take such stuff out into the
wide world without a rather better basis.
But the
idea of world -
wide co-operation that is part
of your plan, as well as Killian's, is completely unrealistic, which was my main point.
The
idea may have implications not only for our understanding
of history, but for modern Mongolia and the
wider world.

The
idea of control (
of the driver) also seems to be what energizes the AGW / evil - CO 2 camp and gives them the emotional impetus to appeal to a
world -
wide audience (along with billions, no, make that trillions,
of dollars).
The aftermath
of World War II brought a
wide range
of ideas for the peaceful application
of nuclear power, including nuclear - powered aircraft, rockets, and even cars (the Ford Nucleon).
Though still theoretical and unproven, the
idea has many powerful advocates, including the ever - energetic President
of Israel, Shimon Peres, the
World Bank, the governments
of Israel, Jordan and France, and a host
of wide - eyed business tycoons.
