The inconsistent accounts likely arise because the distinct studies are conducted using different subsamples and focus
on distinct dimensions of physical health, further highlighting the fact that responses to
widowhood may vary widely by respondents» personal resources and contextual factors (Stroebe et al., 2007).
We attribute the absence of a statistically significant association between
widowhood and physical health to the fact that we relied
on a global measure of health because of our interest
on overall levels of physical health.
