The mysterious origin of Australia's
wild dingoes has become substantially clearer following new genetic research.
If you were to see a Carolina Dog in person, you might easily mistake it for
a wild dingo (it's often referred to as the «American Dingo» or «Yellow Dog»).
Dalmatians and tan kelpies were bred with
the wild dingoes to produce the cattle herding blue heeler.

A new Journal of Wildlife Management study conducted in South Africa has found that black - backed jackals, a similar species to coyotes and
dingoes, prefer to eat livestock rather than similar - sized
wild prey, which has important consequences for livestock husbandry and the management of predators.
At one level it is Canis lupus
dingo, a subspecies of dog that arrived in Australia from Asia 3500 years ago as a domesticated animal that later reverted to living in
wild packs.
Other labs could then compare DNA sequences from purebred dogs;
wild canids such as wolves, coyotes, and
dingoes; and feral dogs.

dingoes to become the
wild animals they are today.

And finally, just as with the Australian
dingo, the New Guinea singing dog in its pure form may be either very rare or possibly even extinct in the
wild, as none have been spotted in Papua New Guinea since the 1970s.
The Dingo is a

It is vital for the success and health of the
dingo population, as well as personal safety, that these
wild dogs are not fed.

However dog - like it might appear, the
dingo is
wild indeed, evolving from the wolf around 6000 - 10,000 years ago and introduced to Australia by sea traders around 5000 years ago.
Also, be aware of
dingoes who are
wild and unpredictable, and keep all food sealed tight and out of the open.
Dingoes are gorgeous and may look like your puppy dog at home but they are
wild animals.

If you watch a kangaroo when it is threatened by
wild dogs or
dingoes, you will notice, more often than not, it will head for water if it is available.
