winning strategy).
La La Land: Damien Chazelle's love letter to Hollywood came into
TIFF with more heat than any other film: It infatuated audiences at the Venice Film Festival, where Emma Stone
won a best actress award, and continued to wrap North American critics around its lithe little finger in Toronto.
That leaves us pondering a number of questions: With «The Shape of Water»
winning the top prize at Venice and finding more fans at
TIFF, does it have the edge on «Lady Bird»?
This is the case whatever you think about the efficacy or otherwise of those questions, or whatever is your personal opinion of who ought to have
won in the Carlson versus Nye
tiff.
