Depending on renewable energy resources
and locations, such as
water flow,
wind, solar irradiation, etc., energy sources are being impacted variably.
Some trigger — Rossby waves reflecting off the western margin, the Madden - Julian Oscillation or something else — causes the
winds to falter
and warm
water flows east across the Pacific.
Renewable Energy — Renewable Energy is defined as energy that is derived from natural resources (such as sunlight,
wind,
water flow, geothermal heat, etc.)
and whose supply is naturally replenished.
This is because hydropower can adjust for
wind energyís power fluctuations by opening
and closing the gates that control
water flow.
A knowledge
and understanding of local patterns of
wind, weather
and water flows make up what some call «ecological literacy» (there's even a simple test you can take).
For instance, since easterly
winds push
water northwards
and westerly
winds seawater southward, it is not obvious to non experts if a complete reversal of the westerlies blowing from N.America to Europe ought to make the gulf stream
flow slower or faster.
I have no supporting calculations, but for fun — how about
wind - powered (tapping the notoriously consistent katabatic
flow off the ice caps) snow - making machines on Greenland
and Antarctica to sequester the excess oceanic
water volume,
and thus to thwart sea level rise.
Part of creating the ultimate sustainable planet will be our ability to find sustainable energy sources in a variety of means, such as sunlight,
water flow,
wind,
and yes, even rain.
