Do we represent a
wisdom tradition for the modern age —
with something important to say about human suffering and human flourishing — or are we orthopedic surgeons of the psyche?
Having said that, as therapists, we do have a
wisdom tradition (
with some scientific basis) about what human flourishing looks like in the 21st century, based on a complex understanding of self and a deep connection to others while maintaining the individual self.
