In order to describe their work, Oliva coined the term transavanguardia, or trans - avant - garde, announcing the beginning of an international phenomenon which took place in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, and became one of the most influential movements of Post-war Italian art along

Luciano Fabro, born in 1936, was an Italian sculptor, conceptual artist and writer associated
with the Arte Povera movement.
From 1967 he became associated
with Arte Povera, and his work was characterised by the juxtaposition of objects, materials, and actions that were both physically and culturally antithetical to one another.
The exhibition includes art objects that are situated as «interventions» in the galleries of Byzantine, African and Surrealist art, culminating in a haunting set of works in dialogue
with Arte Povera works from his native Italy.
Pistoletto's employment of everyday materials, as in the «Muretto di straci» and «Venere degli stracci» (1967) aligned
him with Arte Povera.
In 1967, Kounellis became associated
with Arte Povera, a movement theorized by curator Germano Celant as a major shift from work on flat surfaces to installations.
