with Bodhisattva Swami Anand Arun.
It followed from the teachings of Kobo - Daishi, who in his sermons taught the people that the Shinto gods are identical
with the Bodhisattvas of the Buddhist doctrines.
Not exact matches
It is popular in some circles to envision the afterlife as a parliament of world religions — where Jesus and Buddha and Shankara and Muhammad and Confucius and Mahavira and Moses, along
with shamans,
bodhisattvas and spirit guides of all descriptions would converse and commune together.
The
Bodhisattva compassionately refuses to enter nirvana until every sentient being can enter
with him.
How do worshipers understand the evident contrast between the Maitreya
Bodhisattva with his all peaceful and compassionate complexion and the haggard Jesus of the crucifix
with his contorted body undergoing death spasms?
That is why, in the spirituality of Tibetan Buddhism, there are so many fierce
Bodhisattvas: saint - like figures who harshly treat the ego
with indifference.
On the walls are Japanese shikihi (fine paper squares)
with Zen sayings in the Sino - Japanese ideographs, two Taoist paintings and a picture of the Miroku Bosatsu (Maitreya
Bodhisattva) from Koryuji, Kyoto, These are well received by people and set a good tone to the room.
If we take our cue from the Vimalakirti - nirdesa Sutra, the
bodhisattva is a fully awakened being for whom it is an implication of his perfect enlightenment (rather than a postponement of it) that he remain in solidarity
with all who are afflicted by illness and ignorance, birth and death.
Are they not failing in both directions - failing to come to grips
with the pain as well as the compassion the
Bodhisattva has towards all sentient beings in the world of suffering on the one hand and, on the other, failing to perceive God's saving love contained in the suffering of Jesus dying on the cross?
When the teacher undertook to teach him the alphabet, the young
Bodhisattva uttered a wise saying beginning
with each letter.
Ahhh, keeping
with the ecumenical skepticism, maybe adding to the silly religious imagery by adding a a few Buddhist
Bodhisattvas and a couple Islamic Jinn rolling in the clouds laughing would have been fun!
