Don't know what the beef is
with ETrade.
I was going to go
with etrade but after reading this I'm not sure which one to use.
I have an account
with ETrade.
Do an LLC, open a individual 401k
with etrade and voila.

All of the major brokerage houses (Vanguard, Schwab,
ETrade, Scottrade, etc) in the US give account holders access to a list of ETFs and Mutual Funds
with zero load on deposits, no or low minimum account balances, no or low investment minimums, and no commissions.
ETrade has established itself as one of the top discount brokerage services synonymous
with online investing, being best known for their comprehensive tools, resources and customer support which cater to both long term investors and active traders alike.
I'm just in the process of moving from an account
with an «advisor» to an
ETrade account to set up my own «sleepy» profilio, mostly
with ETF's.
ETrade offers lower rates (as of June 24, 2014) for accounts
with a balance under $ 5,000 or over $ 1 million, but TradeKing has the lower margin rates for the broad range of balances in - between.
ETrade doesn't charge a fee on no - load funds, but will slap investors
with a $ 49.99 early redemption fee if the funds aren't held at least 90 days.
It looks like higher cost than
ETrade,
with less options for investments (and higher costs for investments).
Bond trading is cheaper at
ETrade, where U.S Treasury transactions are free and bond trading costs $ 1 per bond
with a $ 10 minimum.
Eligible deposits in all
ETrade Bank accounts (though not in
ETrade brokerage or investment accounts) are insured in accordance
with current FDIC requirements.

ETrade, Scottrade, and TDAmeritrade, to see what their policies are, and what if any funds / ETF's they allow you to trade in without commissions.
If you want to build your own investment portfolio, online brokerages, such as TD Ameritrade,
ETrade, and TradeKing can provide you
with the tools you need to buy and sell stocks or even invest in more complex investment vehicles, such as stock futures or stock options.
If you're a long term investor, it's best to go
with Scottrade or
ETrade.

I have a trading account
with TD so I set up an account transfer on
ETrade so I can transfer the money from the stocks directly to TD.
Brokers like
ETRADE, Schwab, and TD Ameritrade have their own custom platforms, whereas direct access brokers like SpeedTrader, Lightspeed, and Cobra Trading team up
with other platform providers like Sterling Trader and DAS Trader.
