I had to figure out what to do
with half a mil when I retired and had to turn
RSP savings invested in the usual mutual funds and GICs into something to produce income.
With an additional four deals are scheduled to expire at the
RSP contribution deadline of March 2nd and no new offers announced at the outset of March, the offers pool has thinned out significantly (for now).

I would insist that
RSPs do remain a cash grab for the government when people die
with no surviving spouse and still have money in their
RSPs or RIFs, ALL of which is then taxed at highest marginal rate, which can be very high.
@Marc: I agree that TD e-Series Mutual Fund Accounts should have an established way (
with forms & instructions available on the website) to withdraw funds from a
RSP under the HBP.
On top of
RSPs and defined benefit company pension I also had an optional defined contribution pension fund
with the same company which I had paid out to me when I left, and this had to be put into either a Locked In Retirement Account (LIRA) if I didn't want to pull money out, or a Life Income Fund (LIF) if I did.
Those of us
with sufficient resources to retire early will find it reasonable to withdraw some
RSP funds as an income bridge until CPP & OAS start.
