with Speaking in Tongues?
We see it in the Jesus movement, the charismatic revival
with its speaking in tongues, the growth in conservative churches while others decline in numbers and influence, the turn toward Eastern meditative cults, the upsurge once more of belief in an imminent second coming of Christ to put an end to the distresses of our time.
The lines are also blurred by large segments of Pentecostalism (especially in the south and among blacks) that are also «Holiness» in that they teach «three works of grace» — conversion, entire sanctification and a «baptism in the Spirit»
with speaking in tongues.

I have sometimes been
in prayer meetings where people clearly lose their train of thought, or they don't really know how to pray for the issue at hand, and so rather than pause, or stumble around for the right words, or simply pray wrongly and let God sort it out (He doesn't mind), the person instead starts to «
speak in tongues,» thus trying to impress everybody
with their spirituality.

Had no experience
with the infilling or
speaking in tongues
I know people who are so obviously filled
with the Spirit but do not want to ever «
speak in tongues».
Hence, to
speak in another's
tongue is to be given the capacity to identify closely
with the other person and to find the sensitivity to be open to the other person's need.
There the Spirit tries to break through the limits of imperfect human language
in the
