How do
Vostok, Dome C and other Antarctic and Greenland ice core records of historic levels of atmospheric CO2 compare
with changes in THC and the AMO?
For example, if you examine the ice core data, say from
Vostok station http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/paleo/icecore/antarctica/
vostok/ you may find many episodes
with «bizzare» behavior.
Indeed it was Law Dome, not the Taylor Dome... I had written that from memory, but as my memory is not anymore what it was 40 years ago... What I meant was a graph on the Internet, showing the Law Dome ice core CO2 variations, lagging the temperature variations
with some 50 years (
with ~ 10 ppmv / K, similar to the factor found over the
Vostok ice core trends).
The current global warming signal is therefore the slowest and among the smallest in comparison
with all HRWEs in the
Vostok record, although the current warming signal could in the coming decades yet reach the level of past HRWEs for some parameters.
Global
with South Pole; but
Vostok doubted.
From the
Vostok Ice Core, it is clear that the Earth is subjected to many levels of NATURAL «warmings»: JUST one «category «10» warming of 9 +
with an ~ 12000y duration every 120,000 y; several category «6» warmings of 5 - 6C peaking ~ every 7500y after each category «10» event; many category «3» warmings of 2 - 3C peaking ~ every 5000y; and a multitude of category «2» warmings of 1 - 2C peaking on decade and century scales.
As far as the correlation between GHGs and temperature goes, recent history already passes his r2 > 0.5 test
with flying colours - the Mauna Loa CO2 data vs GISTEMP from 1961 - 2004 gets r2 = 0.76, and I'm sure that the
Vostok ice core data must be in the same ballpark over ~ 400,000 years or more (a quick google finds multiple references to the strong correlation but no hard numbers and I can't be bothered doing it myself).
I skimmed through the post and comments, but didn't notice any discussion of one of the problems
with invoking a large CO2 feedback for the
Vostok data.
Vostok is the deepest proxy
with a depth of 27200 (272.00 m) and age of 11642 BP.
The
Vostok record of atmospheric CO2 and Antarctic climate is consistent
with a view of the climate system in which CO2 concentration changes amplify orbitally - induced climate changes on glacial / inter-glacial time - scales (Shackleton, 2000).
For a completely carbon - dioxide - free reconstruction of the

The new view of climate was reinforced by one of the last great achievements of the Soviet Union, an ice core drilled
with French collaboration at
Vostok in Antarctica.
Crack pots think

We need to see the comparison of GRIP v
Vostok rates of change in temperature and rates of change in CO2
with temperature before the Mayan calendar runs out.
