Much greener is his Tea Garden made from bags filled
with garden soil.
Fill a large ziploc bag
with garden soil and place it in direct sun for several weeks and the soil will become pasteurized.
Holding the seedling by its root ball (never by the stem or leaves if it can be avoided), place the seedling in the hole, fill the rest of the hole

with a mixture of two parts compost, one part perlite, and one part
garden soil, mulched

Gardeners will have to make some mixes
with their own
garden soil and judge for themselves what mixture works best.
Using scissors or a sharp knife, cut the bottle about 4 ″ (10 cm) from the bottom and fill half of it
with soil or another growing media (see also Planting the Pepper
Garden, Part 2: Growing Seedlings).
We have had good luck
with the following formula: 1 part perlite, 1 part sand, 1 part vermiculite, 3 parts commercial potting
soil, and 3 parts
garden soil.
If you prefer to make your own mixture, go
with 1/3 good
garden soil (don't go
with clay
soil as it compacts badly), 1/3 composted cow manure or similar growing medium, and 1/3 sand.
My first year of college she sent me all the ingredients including carrots from her
garden that she had kept in the root cellar (my birthday is in November)
with the
soil still on them «so I could have a bit of home».
Cultivation for export, however, would involve less risk, if capsicums were regarded as a secondary or intermediate crop, to be grown on a plantation along
with the principal one — as natives plant groundnuts or other beans between the rows of their maize -
gardens — in a country
with favourable
soil and climate.
Two weeks before transplanting seedlings into the
garden, cover the rows
with clear plastic mulch to warm the
soil.
Remember that solarized
soil can become re-infested if contaminated
soil is brought into the plot by dirty shoes or tools, so clean all
garden shoes and disinfect the rototiller blades, shovels, and hoes
with flames from a propane torch before using them.
The grower can control the spread of water in sloping
gardens with small dams made from
soil or sections of two - by - fours.
Don't use
garden soil for containers unless it is thoroughly mixed half and half
with the above mixture.

However, having fresh produce at my disposable for nearly free is a pretty awesome selling point, so each year I experiment a little more than the year before and I've found the things that I can grow
