of impeccable liberalism, to praise.

with far too many young evangelical women — spent hours upon hours fretting over this in college, worrying I'd never find a guy who was more knowledgeable about the Bible than I, who was always more emotionally connected to God than I, who was better at leading in the church than I, and who consistently exhibited more faithfulness and wisdom than I. (In fact, under this paradigm, I came to see many
of my
gifts as liabilities, impediments to settling down
with a good «spiritual leader»!)

teaching on the signs
of the end was the disciples» remark that the temple in Jerusalem was adorned
with beautiful stones and
with gifts dedicated to God.
Whenever we come upon these matters in secular writers, let that admirable light
of truth shining in them
teach us that the mind
of man, though fallen and perverted from its wholeness, is nevertheless clothed and ornamented
with God's excellent
gifts.18

with the precedence I mentioned.
The book
of Acts really
teaches us that it's all too easy — even

gifts of grace we have received — for the Christian community to almost entirely fall our
of step
with that freedom and virtually abandon the message
of life (Paul talks in Galatians about how he stood alone for the Gospel).

We've probably all seen Little Man Tate or read about 18 month olds who
taught themselves to read and yes, an 18 year old who
teaches themselves to read does exist in the world and could be seen as «
gifted» by genetics / higher power if you believe in that
