with their special education student population.

We studied four school systems that are rising to the challenge and seeing
growth in student
achievement, even as they work
with large populations of
high - need students.
While most districts saw similar
growth regardless of their share of disadvantaged students, districts
with low levels of
achievement and
growth tended to have
higher shares of
high - need students.
WestEd collected data from 13 schools across the country using teacher and student surveys (N = 216 and 842 respectively), phone interviews
with teachers (N = 19) and principals (N = 12), and analyzed student
achievement in 26 schools implementing Tribes TLC for one or more years, and in a select set of
high -
growth schools.
