with these concerns since according to them
inorganic arsenic is considered a natural compounds, the Consumer Reports study disagrees, saying that
inorganic arsenic as the form in which
arsenic is found in the majority of products they analyzed is ranked by IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) among the top 100 Group 1 carcinogen substances.
The concern, perhaps unfounded,
with a variety of plant foods is that more of their
arsenic is in the
inorganic form.
But — should something like eliminating
inorganic arsenic in rice be treated
with equal urgency as eliminating animal products?
Women who consumed rice had higher levels of total
arsenic and
inorganic arsenic in their urine, compared
with those who did not consume rice.
Alpharma, a subsidiary of Pfizer Inc., will voluntarily suspend U.S. sales of the animal drug 3 - Nitro (Roxarsone) after the report showed that the livers of chickens treated
with the drug contained low levels of
inorganic arsenic, a known carcinogen.
Brussels sprouts Despite the fact that these vegetables are among the healthiest you can eat, Dr. Cottingham's research, along
with others studies, note that
inorganic arsenic that exists in soil is highly attracted to sulfur compounds in brussels sprouts, along
with other cruciferous vegetables, including kale, broccoli, and cauliflower.
Because the relationship between consumption and body weight is highest in infants and young children, the FDA has established levels of
inorganic arsenic in infant rice cereal that are consistent
with the levels set by EFSA for rice destined for the production of food for infants and young children, and half those established by EFSA and Codex for the population at large.
