She has been researching
modern and contemporary South African art since the late 1990s, specialising in the story of
artists in exile during Apartheid
and their cultural interactions
with the Black Diaspora in France
and England.
It suggests continuity

Modern's past view of art history, culminating in 1960s formalism, but also renewed attention to women
artists and contemporary art's free play.
The displays of
modern British art start in the late 19th century
with Sickert
and his
contemporaries,
and move through the decades to the present day, covering
artists such as Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, Eduardo Paolozzi
and Peter Blake along the way.
The essay is followed by an interview
with the

Berry Campbell represents an important group of Postwar

with Long Island's East End, a gathering place for the New York School beginning in the 1940s.
This is the first in a series of projects that will see her work simultaneously at

and her participation to The Place is Here at Nottingham
Contemporary (4 February — 30 April), a major exhibition bringing together around 100 works by over 30
