The most curious and unusual sculpture of the fair was found at Dublin - based Kerlin Gallery's
booth: a tiny, stunningly lifelike rendering of a crab whose front claws were molded from artist Dorothy Cross's own index fingers was
painted silver, mounted on a small white plinth no more than two feet high (I'm not great

In Basel, Ms. Lévy's
booth was packed
with masterpieces by a wide array of blue - chip artists, including Gerhard Richter and Barnett Newman, and she managed to build a number of impressive deals, including the sale of Picasso's 1971
painting Tête d'Homme à la Pipe, which had been priced at $ 15 million.
Additional first - time exhibitors at Art Basel in Miami Beach who will feature artists from Latin America in Survey include Galeria Jaqueline Martins,
with an exhibition devoted to Letícia Parente (b. 1930, d. 1991), a pioneer of Brazilian video art, and Ricardo Camargo Galeria, who will transform its

LH: I appreciate
booths that are carefully curated and maintain the integrity of the artists, as if it was a museum show, opposed to
booths that have only commercial aims in mind and try to hang as many
paintings together which have nothing to do
with one another just for the purpose of sales.
In a market moment obsessed
with the often - spurious aesthetic innovations of its youngest artists, Honor Fraser's
booth provided a welcome measure of historical perspective, showing
paintings by fresh - faced stars (bent canvases by Kaz Oshiro, KAWS's latest abstractions, a big Sarah Cain) alongside some pretty cutting - edge compositions that turned out to be by — shocker — a bunch of supposedly tame midcentury names.
His
booth hangs the
paintings of Nengi Omuku — abstract, emotional manifestations of her frustrations while dealing
with a failing Nigerian justice system.
Other highlights in the
booth included a diptych from Elmgreen & Dragset «Lowered Goals» that comprises a basketball backboard paired
with an identical rectangle - within - a-rectangle sans hoop, which looks just like a hard - edged abstract
painting.
In March, she gave half her Armory Show
booth to the artist and sold 14
paintings, and now she's bringing her work to Art Basel Miami Beach,
with a major solo show planned at the gallery next fall.
Another is that of Tiwani Contemporary, the walls of which are covered
with the
paintings of Francisco Vidal, an artist who was inspired by jazz music and who you can periodically catch DJ» ing at the
booth.
At the Hole's
booth, the gallery had installed several abstract
paintings that the street artist known as Katsu had created by attaching a
paint applicator to a small computer - guided drone,

paint on the canvas via a trigger.

with his feet — sometimes
with his entire body — Rainer manipulates form, composition, and perception to capture extreme emotions.

booth — wedged between a model made by the amazing Mark Hogencamp of Marwencol and some
paintings created by a dog — we got to chat

The San Francisco dealer Jessica Silverman has a knack for putting together memorable
booths at art fairs, and her selection of
paintings by the Canadian - born, Berlin - based artist Shannon Finley was a knockout, presenting a suite of abstractions that the artist created by using a palette knife to apply acrylic that he mixed
