Open Faced Croque Monsieur — a traditional croque monsieur sandwich,
with sliced ham, Gruyere cheese, mustard and a creamy sauce served open face on soft and tender old fashioned butter bread.
Of course you can always substitute fish sausage
with sliced ham or kamaboko with white cheese.
Back when I was pregnant I would have definitely taken one (or two) of these... topped
with sliced ham.
They would be lovely
with sliced ham and Jezebel sauce and if you used a small biscuit cutter, they would be an appropriate size for an hors d'oeuvres platter.
Butterkäse pairs perfectly
with sliced ham for sandwiches.

What I had in mind were simple cocktail snacks, and the menu included tomato and onion bruschetta; carrot and celery sticks
with a delicious cream cheese dip; cheese and salami; and finally, for the star of the meal, homemade scones topped
with slices of
ham and cheese, and finished
with cream cheese and freshly chopped chives.
The bread kept well in the car for the week and it was super convenient being able to grab a
slice of this out to eat
with some
ham or almond butter while bush - walking or after a long swim at the beach.

My traditional method has been to remove the thick stem from the center of the leaf, cut leaves into
slices, parboil for about 15 minutes, then saute
with small bits of a smoked meat like bacon or

Mr B and I shared a carefully prepared, customized «Vaporetto,»

What do you get when you combine cubes of
ham with a ton of Miracle Whip and
sliced almonds?
The classic rosettes are filled
with a little bechamel sauce sprinkled
with Parmigiano - Reggiano and topped
with sliced cooked
ham and fontina cheese.
