In an update at the start of the year, inspectors were asked to familiarise
themselves with the School Food Plan's guidance around developing a whole school approach to food as it is «relevant to their assessment of how schools are supporting pupils to keep themselves healthy».
Ofsted's School Inspection Update, published January 2016, calls for inspectors to be familiar
with The School Food Plan and resources as a means of supporting both the provision of healthy choices in school food and in the delivery of food education.

The workers are calling for five specific changes they
plan to present to the

plan (provided by your doctor) that outlines the steps to take if anaphylaxis were to occur, 4) train all necessary staff on the use of epinephrine, 5) have a
school nurse in the building at all times, 6) include your child in every activity possible including field trips, 7) educate the community about
food allergies, 8) refuse to allow any bullying behavior regarding
food allergies, 9) find ways to celebrate without
food and 10) stand up to parents (and educate them) who say that
food allergies are «hogwash»!
Monthly meetings or calls
with the
school staff are recommended to ensure your child's
food allergy
plan is on target.
Specifically, the SNA is asking to: keep the level of whole grains in the total number of grain
foods served at 25 %; avoid further reductions in sodium; eliminate the requirement that kids take fruit or a vegetable
with their meal (returning to the old system in which kids could — and often did — pass up those healthful
foods); and allow
schools to sell on a daily basis a la carte items like pizza and fries, as opposed to the current
plan which would allow these items to be sold only on the same day they appeared on the main lunch line.

There is still the
school meal that can be a problem, because in the US the
school meals are not as healthy as they should be, but maybe you want to have a
plan to bring some
food to
school with you — make it at home and then give it to your kid.
If you want to send your child off to

food» lunches this year,

Rather than passing herself off as some sort of miracle worker, or trying to sell me on a simple five - step
plan she'd come up
with, she made it clear to me that improving
school food can not happen without lots of hard work and, most importantly, without funding; in her case, San Francisco's board of education is willing to kick in significant money each year to cover the costs of the improved
school food.
She was interested to hear about my blog because, according to her, the students at Milby are so unhappy
with HISD
school food that they had
planned a boycott for this week.
