We had a rather odd selection of vegetables
in the fridge, some leftover quinoa that had been cooked
with turmeric and really wanted to play outside rather than play
in the kitchen.
Since the
turmeric is already powdered, toast it very lightly, for only about a minute — if you toast it last, you can even do this
in the already - hot skillet
with the heat turned off.
Chicken thighs are braised, slowly simmered
with fresh dill
in broth
with a healthy does of anti-inflammatory
turmeric spice.
Marinate the prawns
with little salt and
turmeric powder meanwhile and heat little oil
in a separate pan and slightly fry them.
For added complexity of flavour
in the soup I've played around
with a dash of cumin on an occasion and a teaspoon of
turmeric on another — both great.
I have a few other recipes
with millet on Where Is My Spoon if you would like some more ideas, for instance these Zucchini Fillet
with Millet, Feta and Parmesan or this Somali Corn
in Coconut
Turmeric Sauce, which is served
with millet.
Pressure cook the soaked lentils along
with water and
turmeric powder for 3 whistle or cook directly
in a large vessel till the lentils are soft and cooked.
Sprinkle
with sea salt and toss around until the rutabaga is fully coated
in the
turmeric, allowing to sweat for 2 - 3 minutes.
Fresh carrots simmered
in orange juice and flavored
with marmalade, English mustard and
turmeric combine
with quinoa to make a healthy, hearty side dish to serve
with chicken, fish or pork.
Turmeric, ginger, and black pepper help aid
in digestion and have rich anti-inflammatory properties, topped off
with miso, the probiotic rich superfood.
With the vegan cheese and root
turmeric in hand I exactly which direction I was heading.
Though my version is made
with two superfoods (anti-inflammatory
turmeric and roasted seaweed, both of which give this bad boy a big flavor boost), the actual vegetables you use
in the soup can vary based on whatever you prefer or have on hand.
