Apple Inc. shareholders could make history next year by deciding whether the company should be forced to increase the number of non-white executives and directors,
with a vote on a proposal the iPhone maker has tried to squelch.
The nearly 4,500 members of the Washington Teachers Union are now tasked
with voting on the proposal over the next two weeks.

Proposals to declassify the board and require majority
voting are almost always popular
with shareholders, so it's not like these companies are going out
on a limb.
Activist investor Carl Icahn has spearheaded opposition to the bid and presented a
proposal of his own
with Southeastern Asset Management Inc., although this will not go to a

vote on Proposal 2, saying Apple illegally bundled it
