calls «the ideology of familism» that invested

called «Biblical Families» reveals just how loaded the word «biblical» can be!)
The initiative has sparked a campus - wide debate about biblical interpretation and the roles of
women, as well as a second group
called Students for Egalitarianism
in Marriage.
It was fairly easy - and rather fun - to ridicule these last, and I had a very enjoyable time
in the 1990s when a group
called the «Catholic
Women's Network» fell for a spoof which I wrote about a group of well - to - do ladies sitting round a swimming pool with wine and salads bemoaning their lot and denouncing the Church's teachingson
marriage and sexual morality.
We are
called to be light and salt, and one way to do this is to stand up and speak out FOR BIBLICAL VALUES and against sin... yes, of course we should be preaching / teaching / living God's «theology of
marriage»
in our own
marriages...... but God has clearly defined
marriage as between one man and one
woman, and therefore, when our government says it's otherwise, we should be light and salt and speak up, and vote accordingly.
I don't believe single
women are
called to twiddle their thumbs until a godly man finds you and makes you his wife and then you can finally serve God
in the context of
marriage.
These young
women were caught
in what demographers
call the «
marriage squeeze» — the shortage of potential mates that resulted from the sharp jump
in birthrates that began
in 1947.
Christians get
called on their belief mostly because if there is a battle over same sex
marriage; or
woman's rights or what should or shouldn't be taught
in schools... you can be guaranteed a christian has their hands muddied.
I lean towards the third view... but I admit it is the most difficult of the three views... Christ's priorities appear to be «love
in motion» flowing
in almost unpredictable directions as dictated by the greatest need: — He heals a slave rather than rebukes slavery; — He heals a man at a pool, then leads the man to belief, then says «cease from sinning»; — He heals many others and says «go and sin no more» to but a few; — He shares money with the poor but establishes no long - term aid; — He touches lepers; He converses with seeking Pharisees; He debates with other Pharisees; He lives with Samaritan outcasts for two days; — He acknowledges the five «
marriages» of the Samaritan
woman as «
marriages»... and then remarks about her current co-habitation... but then moves to higher priorities; — He seems so very focused on internal holiness and not on external holiness; — He violates the Sabbath; He says He is Lord of the Sabbath; He even says that the Sabbath was created to assist man, rather than man created to serve the Sabbath... thus turning the entire concept of the Law into one of assistance rather than being chained to obedience; — He insists on impartiality
in the way we bless others, even if we
call them «evil» or «good».
During this prayer vigil, I urge you to ask God to help you find your vocation... The Lord
calls many people to
marriage,
in which a man and a
woman,
in becoming one flesh (cf.Gen 2:24), find fulfilment
in a profound life of communion.
Those who
call themselves «left» on the spectrum and «liberal» don't lift a finger to actually rescue Muslim
women from oppression, forced

Included
in the above are a few prevalent beliefs about
marriage: that it creates a sense of ownership (well, it's true —
women were the property of their husband for many, many, many years); that it stifles freedom and independence (it has been
called a «greedy institution «-RRB-; it enables couples to become «too comfortable,» and the label «wife» and the expectations that come with being a wife are troublesome for some
women — especially
woman who have been married before.
If a savvy lawyer informs a
woman that her ex could get equal custody, thus putting the kabosh on her plans, and then asks if she ever feared him, whether he ever cursed at her,
called her names, raised his voice or screamed
in a fit of rage, «I'm so angry at you, I could kill you» — and what
marriage doesn't have some sort of anger, yelling or threats?
