I think a lot of people expected him to be more liberal than he has been, but he sees his role
as keeping the church together when it divides on controversial issues like

Too much about Catholicism I could no longer tolerate — pedophile
priests, and a refusal by the hierarchy to recognize
women as anything but servants top my list.
So the washing clean of original sin in Baptism is irrelevant and SacredOrders need not exclude
women since the
priest no longer acts in the person of Christ
