in a Calvinist

over a decade, and witnessing person after person and family after family leaving the

An interesting statement from the same article: «'' Many times

women by men who are emotionally manipulative or abusive
in order to get their way and maintain power and control.»
The teaching that men are to be the «spiritual leaders» of their homes is found nowhere
in Scripture, and yet I — along with far too many young evangelical women — spent hours upon hours fretting over this in college, worrying I'd never find a guy who was more knowledgeable about the Bible than I, who was always more emotionally connected to God than I, who was better at leading in the church than I, and who consistently exhibited more faithfulness and wisdom than I. (In fact, under this paradigm, I came to see many of my gifts as liabilities, impediments to settling down with a good «spiritual leader»

women's roles
in the home,

An Episcopal

But here's the primary reason I'm uncomfortable with this being framed as an equal rights issue:
Over half of the complementarians
in my
church are
women.
A long and engaged effort at Communion - wide consultation
over the issue of
women in the episcopacy gave rise to a report, endorsed by the Communion's archbishops, to maintain communion as far as possible even while various
churches carried on with different practices.

church and marriage, however, the challenge of conflicting viewpoints has brought what otherwise might have remained implicit methods of interpretation to light.
The current controversy
over women's place
in worship and marriage can be healthy for the evangelical
church, for only as a position is argued passionately and under pressure are its possibilities fully explored.
For example, the Orthodox
Church has always had
woman preachers and evangelists; no problem with
women preaching, and I have preached
in the pulpit of Orthodox
churches all
over the country.
I know many complementarians who, although they believe men should hold authority
over women in the home,
church, and society, make an exception for the marriage bed, acknowledging the Apostle Paul's teachings on mutuality
in this regard (1 Corinthians 7:1 - 5).
I do not permit a
woman to teach or to assume authority
over a man; she must be quiet» and then they silence
women in the
church...
in a well - meaning way.
In Genesis 3, the woman usurped authority over her husband and took the lead in the Fall, and is now forbidden to do so in the local church by teaching Scriptures to me

in the Fall, and is now forbidden to do so
in the local church by teaching Scriptures to me
in the local
church by teaching Scriptures to men.
I'm thinking of going there or to a
women friendly episcopal
church in the next town
over (our local episcopal
church is pretty conservative).
Although there may be some variation on the specifics, broadly speaking, complementarians believe that
women are biblically - bound to submit to male leadership
in the home and
in church life, which means that husbands are ultimately responsible for decision - making on behalf of their families and that
women should refrain from assuming leadership positions
over men
in a
church setting.
It is precisely because they knew how to silence themselves before God that
women like Teresa of Avila, Julian of Norwich, and Catherine of Siena were able to have so much influence
over the
Church in times when
women had little voice.
Regarding
women in the
church, Hannah said she feels strongly that based on 1 Corinthians 11, they should not speak or have authority
over men.
But one theme emerged that I hadn't looked for,
over and
over:
Women,
in the middle of their lives, who felt invisible and ignored by the
church, the same way they feel invisible or ignored
in our culture.
Now that so much data is available to make the unexplained less frightening... and that the historical record has shown that most
church doctrine was made up and that even the Jesus birth story / son of god born of a
woman etc etc has been recycled
in numerous different religions for
over 4000 years... preaching Faith
in a fairy tale is a losing proposition.
God is stirring the waters
in my soul, the song I'm hearing whisper across the water is breathing your name somehow, and I feel like taking some time to brood
over God's
women in the world,
in the
church, to pray, to wait, to cover us all.
Sometimes egalitarians,
in their enthusiasm for advancing the equality and dignity of
women in the
Church, gloss
over such passages or try to explain them away.
I tend to think that it's not
women entering leadership roles that has caused the decline of the
church but rather tradition and doctrine
over ruling the search truth
in the scriptures.
So
in this understanding, I share
in it's biblical understanding it's wise to have the Head the man as the authority
over the members of the
Church, instead of a
woman preaching to a gathering of both men and
women.
Yes, she would step up to the plate if no men were available but if a Godly man was standing
in the sanctuary and he gave
over leadership of the
church to a
woman???? No doubt about it, we both do not believe that God intended for
women to be preachers, or priestesses, or leaders
in the
church except for tending to the
women and the children.
I have looked back
over several posts you have made, and the low class, degrading place you think
women hold
in the
church — just does not exist.
As we covered
in a previous article, these instructions fall smack
in the middle of words to men and
women about false teaching and angry disputing
over ways the surrounding culture is creeping into the Ephesian
church.
I have christian friends from other
churchs and there
women do these things and they do it because that is how they interpret the word. Its optional and not inforced by the
church or by there husbands. They do it as an act of worship to the Lord. The point is how you interpret the word that was what i was getting at as we know the word is the inspired word of God to understand it we need the inspiration of the holy spirit otherwise the word is dead and brings no life.
In the case of mother etta she was called to preach and God used her as an evengelist
in her day her ministry grew she witnessed to thousands she healed the sick and saved the lost you can argue
over a point but the proof is there that God uses
women just as he uses men
in ministry today.
There are more
women over the last forty years (since second wave feminism) involved
in public
church ministry than
in the history of the
church.
agree it seems
in our
church in one month we have three
women preaching, every month the pastors wife made a comment that some are saying the
women are taking
over then she laughed if the men cant then we will do it,
If there was a problem with
women usurping authority
over men
in the
church in Ephesus, Paul would have addressed it.

Thankfully, 1 Timothy 2:12 — «I do not permit a

over a man» — continues to be rigidly applied
in many
churches today without regard to its original context or intended audience.
