A change that would make Buffett hopeful for
women in the workforce took place soon after: Following World War II, women's participation in the U.S. labor force rose from 32.7 percent in 1948 to 56.8 percent in 2016, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

That the arrival
took so long reflects the difficulty of making changes
in a profoundly conservative country where tradition had long kept
women out of the
workforce almost entirely.
Yet
women often have a tougher time contributing toward their retirement,
in part because they are more likely to
take time away from the
workforce to care for family members.
Along with the the hashtag, millions of
women took off of work to observe A Day Without a
Woman in order to powerfully display how many
women represent the
workforce.
There are many books and resources that help moms return to the
workforce after being a stay - at - home mom, but very little that offer support to the career
woman who decides to pivot and
take some time off to be with her children
in the early years.
As an increasing number of
women and mothers participate
in the
workforce, federal and state laws and policies have not met the needs of both male and female workers who must balance
taking care of themselves and their families with the responsibilities of work.
Supporters of the bill say it's geared to both men and
women in the
workforce who have to
take unexpected days off.
Jan Rinehart, president of
Women in Engineering Progams and Advocates Network (WEPAN), suggested that current and previous
workforce diversity initiatives have had minimal impact because critical cultural change — a true and fundamental commitment to diversity — has still not
taken place
in academia or industry.
And,
in an unprecedented discussion at The Markets, a group of female executives
in publishing will
take up the question of why the corporate leadership
in so many publishing houses today remains so predominantly male while so much of the
workforce is made up of highly capable
women.

workforce in the industry, although senior positions are mainly
taken up by men.

take on homemaking or child - rearing roles.

women who had achieved some personal semblance of «equality»
in the
workforce had
in fact
taken considerable initiative to do so, gaining the education and experience, and putting
in the requisite time and effort toward that career.
