women lawyers they need to work harder.»
But to truly succeed — as both the roundtable participants and those interviewed for «A step in the right direction,» about law firm marketing, note —
women lawyers need not only to network among themselves but, in order to really reach the towers of power and wealth, be able to build networks that include men.

While both
women and men
need to exercise, get sufficient sleep, and eat well,
women often
need to pay attention to three other important elements to gain sufficient energy to lead demanding lives as
lawyers.

In order to reach our goals next time, we will
need to compensate by inviting more
women and
lawyers of color relative to the goal.
We
need more
women speaking at Tech Show, LegalWeeK, and other conferences, a professional association of
women lawyers with technology expertise or an interest in learning, and more recognized female legal technology experts.
If
women lawyers are looking toward leadership roles, they will
need to develop their own business.
After speaking with the
lawyer, the
woman realized that there was more to the case, and that she
needed help to get the best compensation she could.
The
need to retain
women lawyers and reverse gender inequality in terms of salary and promotion is a serious issue for the top firms.
I was told the story of a
woman whose house was destroyed and FEMA didn't give her the aid that she was entitled to because she couldn't get a copy for insurance policy and the legal aid
lawyer stepped in, helped her file her complaints and she was able to get the documentation she
needed.
Confidence is key for
women lawyers to be successful, but that's not the only quality they
need to exude to be outstanding
lawyers.
