When compared
with newborns of
women who planned a hospital birth attended by a physician, those whose mothers planned a home birth were similarly at reduced risk of birth
trauma (RR 0.33, 95 % CI 0.15 — 0.74), resuscitation at birth (RR 0.56, 95 % CI 0.32 — 0.96) and oxygen therapy behond 24 hours (RR 0.38, 95 % CI 0.24 — 0.61)(Table 4, Appendix 1).
I also think that we really need to focus on preventing and addressing birth
trauma — and a lot of that is going to have to be a result of a culture shift
with respect to birth and a willingness to accept a wide diversity of
women with a wide range of circumstances.
