Since hamsters love to gnaw, and have incisors made just for that purpose, add a dog biscuit or

The
wood block was a bit of an odd size, 6» x 6»,

It is real
wood, and I don't think it has been treated (they encourage you to treat it with food - safe oils),
so I assume you could... But I bet you could get more info by researching their butcher
block finishes.
I'm thinking they could frame out the existing fireplace with
wood studs
so that they could attach thin rectangular panels of plywood to it (that have been faux - finished to look like concrete) in a
block pattern.

Time for the wheels, first added little cut
blocks of
wood so the screws would not poke through the drawers, used gorilla glue to make them extra secure, and screwed in little swivel castors.
I had some random sticky sandpaper refills that actually don't work for my newest sander,
so instead, I stuck them onto a
wood block and used it to lightly distress the edges.
I spaced out the dowels as I wanted them on the
wood block and then traced around them
so I would know where to put the holes.
You have to create some holes for the dowels to fit into
so that you can secure them to the
wood block.
