This experimental, free form approach to painting also led her to
make unprecedented strides in abstract printmaking - particularly

Dirty Fingers is a large group exhibition focusing on various forms of contemporary
print making which include silk - screening, etching, rubbing, stenciling, stamp and
woodblock printing.
A second, and equally engaging exhibition at The Clark, No Rules: Helen Frankenthaler Woodcuts, traces her groundbreaking work in
woodblock printing back to 1973, when Frankenthaler
made her first woodcuts.
Except for a central column covered in brightly colored strips, the patterning is black and white, and it was
made by means of
woodblock printing and high - gloss house paint....
