works with a rescue group or

work remains to be done, and more lives need to be saved, we're inspired by our success in reducing the

Despite the fact that HSUS had
worked to
kill similar bills in Texas, New York, Florida, and elsewhere, I was more optimistic about
shelter reform legislation succeeding in Minnesota because two HSUS representatives — a Board member and Jennifer Fearing, the person in charge of
sheltering policies for HSUS — personally assured me
at a meeting in San Francisco just over a month ago that the days of HSUS claiming «neutrality» (a sham in and of itself given it benefits the status quo) but then
working to
kill shelter reform legislation were over.
Keep in mind that puppies are a lot of
work and that there are hundreds of thousands of well behaved adult dogs being
killed at our
shelters every day that might be a better choice for your family's pet.
I don't want to say much about this as I could go on and on here, but I

kill shelter (which is just something based on faulty statistics).

It's hard to know how to respond to the letter written by Napa County Public
Works Director Steve Lederer («No -
kill shelter initiative discussed,» March 31) which criticizes an initiative now being circulated that would mandate changes
at the county animal
shelter.
A new director might expect that rescuers will automatically support a No
Kill effort, but rescuers who are not familiar with how No
Kill actually
works and who have no experience with innovative programs may balk
at what we in the
shelter world know are lifesaving techniques.
