On its face, Musson's new body of
work is unabashedly old -
fashioned: a series of intimate coffee - stained gouaches that tackle both the
negative currents
in the zeitgeist — including violence and aggression — and his own personal demons.
Higgins wrote from the standpoint of a practicing artist speaking for the
work of his peers and against the art market and academia, realms which Higgins came to regard as mirror equivalents of one another, relatable
in negative terms to the
fashion industry.
