It's ultimately about selling
work but the RA makes a great effort to make it accessible for people who just want to have a browse and see great art — including a mixture
of established Royal
Academicians and emerging artists.

works for sale, this year's show has been curated by Royal
Academician Richard Wilson.
It's instructive to compare the brittle landscapes
of the American Impressionist Childe Hassam to monumental
works by van Gogh and Cezanne; or Matisse's restless odalisque, «Blue Nude,» to a static female portrait by the celebrated American
academician Robert Henri.
However the appointment
of the artist is somewhat controversial: most famous for the
works Everyone I Have Ever Slept With (a tent embroidered with the names
of everyone she had ever sleepy with), and My Bed (her unmade bed, surrounded by grimy detritus), Emin is not your typical fine arts
