It looks really healthy -
with all the different colors, but I think dicing that
butternut squash is just too much
work!
Never
worked with or made anything from
butternut squash.
But the recipe still
worked out; the remaining unburnt jam had cooked down
with the milk and sugar into a deliciously caramelized mixture of tender mashed
butternut squash -
with a smoky fall flavor all its own (hopefully not due to our burning the bottom of the milk!)

work in this recipe, but I've tried the following
with great results: winter
squash (e.g.
butternut or acorn), sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, potatoes, cauliflower, beets, turnips, radishes, parsnips and brussels sprouts.

with Butternut Squash anything, so it certainly
works here.
According to the chef, translating art onto a plate
works well
with enhancing complex or even simple flavors - adding a strong, contrasting brush of color
with butternut squash puree or avocado paste to a plate adds both taste and visual impact.
