Delivering
access to justice demands change and action
on a very broad range of initiatives — pro bono
work by the private bar, fair and adequate funding of legal aid, collaboration among all system participants (clients, lawyers, courts, agencies, NGO's), legal education (and its financing), e-filing and case data standards, court forms, court interfaces

As a strategic thinker
working at the intersection of law, technology and
access to justice, and based
on my years of experience being embedded in a community legal centre, here are some ideas that seem
to me,
to have some potential for positive impact:

on you
to continue
to do what you're doing; advocate for more funding, examine systems and create new systems,
work together, be creative and think about the exorbitant fees we charge and what that means for people who need
access to justice.»
There's an adjustment that's going
on and the state supreme court group is really into it and then the various
access to justice commissions have done pretty amazing
work so this is the second part of the story.
Nicole Bradick: Yeah, so I do think it's great that there's so much focus right now
on access to justice technology, but the people who are doing the really hard
work are the people who are out there sort of pushing for a systemic change and trying
to make changes
to court rules or processes.
Last week, the National Action Committee
on Access to Justice in Civil and Family Matters, chaired by
Justice Tom Cromwell, released for public consultation two of four reports from its
working groups.
The main challenges are: 1)
working your way through an ad - hoc process that rests
on a yes / no decision of a Chief
Justice; 2) juggling a mix of standards and unique requirements that reduce the possible uses of the whole
to the strictest of terms imposed by one; and 3) the court actually finding a way
to provide or facilitate
access to both current and historical decisions in a usable format.
Lord Bach, who is chairing Labour's Commission
on Access to Justice, resigned from his frontbench role in the House of Lords in May 2016 following his election as Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire, but his review of legal aid is continuing its
work.
We understand that you are currently
working on some projects that aim
to harness technology
to improve
access to justice for so that the public can public know all their available options in resolving disputes including online legal consultation services.
