Despite mounting competition from other operating systems (OSs), Apple's iOS will continue to own the majority of
the worldwide media tablet through 2015, according to Gartner, Inc..
Gartner now believes the Apple iPad will account for 3 out of 4 (73.4 %) of
worldwide media tablet sales in 2011, down from 83 percent share in 2010.
The worldwide media tablet market grew 45.1 % in the third quarter of 2010 thanks to continued huge demand for the Apple iPad according to a report out this week from the International Data Corporation.
Other analysts have also suggested growth for the tablet PC market, with research firm IDC estimating that
worldwide media tablet shipments will total 46 million units in 2014.
Apple's iOS continues to be the dominant media tablet operating system (OS), as it is projected to account for 61.4 percent of
worldwide media tablet sales to end users in 2012 (see Table 1).

media tablet market with the iPad's
worldwide share rising to nearly 70 % in the second quarter, according to research firm IHS iSuppli — although Apple will face new competition from Microsoft and Google in the back half of 2012.

Google's Android OS is forecast to increase its

media tablet market from 20 percent in 2011 to 39 percent in 2015.
