When I
wrote a post
earlier this year pointing to this classic tweet by Randi Zuckerberg laying out «the entrepreneur's dilemma», it was clear from
readers» responses that it struck a nerve.
If the
early stuff —
written under the dire influence of Alice Meynell, Francis Thompson, and other «nineties» Catholics — would make a normal
reader cringe, and the later stuff — when he had discovered Eliot and modernism — is not technically good, it is nonetheless memorable.
One blog
reader, Jake Yaniak, left a comment that he had
written something similar just a week or so
earlier.
In light of Lewis's long and distinguished career, encompassing so many contributions to process philosophy, many

reader questions things that are puzzling or unclear, or that disagree with something the author had
written earlier in the same work.
Sharing your
early writing not only helps improve your
writing but helps market your book, since these
early readers become superfans who help spread the word, providing reviews on launch date, and sharing news on their social media channels.

Keep
writing stronger work, and eventually you won't mind that your
earliest books have the lowest possible barrier to
reader entry.
This recognition, so
early in my
writing career, inspires me to
write many more interesting stories and keep
readers entertained.
