writing them (Yes, editors

There is so much to learn and signing up to the Author Marketing Club has been a
good way to tap into this knowledge and use a number of useful tools such as the
blurb writing boost.
Especially as it can give you an idea of how to distill a story you love into such a medium; much like trying to
write a logline or
blurb for a favorite book can be a
good exercise.
That's one of the many reasons Kris and I have always taught writers to learn how to
write good cover copy and
blurbs that will sell.
Yes, there are one - and two - sentence
blurbs that either trash a book or proclaim it to be the
best ever
written... On the whole, however, I found that most Amazon customer reviews aim to provide readers with a reason to either read a book or pass it over.

A
well -
written blurb focuses on key plot elements that will intrigue readers and entice them to purchase your book.
Look at the tools available, a lot of them are the same;
good, quality covers,
well -
written blurbs, chapter samples and taglines and pull quotes.
Just as you use it to attract readers, a
well -
written, exciting
blurb can lure a talented narrator to your project.
They've
written to market, have 10 (or more) books out (and they're
good, follow tropes, etc) have great
blurbs, great covers, a big mailing list, a free reader magnet, and use thousands of dollars in advertisement when the book releases, yet they still don't come close to making a living (most only make a few hundred dollars after production costs).
Although my cover was intriguing and the back cover
blurb well written, I believed there was nothing original enough to capture the attention of romance and suspense readers.
A slow start, but
good use of language, beautifully
written, characters to love and hate and what seemed like a
good story until the rather grim ending, which made a complete lie of the
blurb on the back: «Briony will have witnessed mysteries, and committed a crime for which she will spend the rest of her life trying to atone».
I do not know for sure, but I would wager anything that both Cussler and Patterson
write their own
blurbs as
well, since both were originally in advertising.
I have two novels in print, two more under contract, and in each case I've gotten
good endorsements, but always from authors who say they don't undertake to consider
writing blurbs for books until they are under contract.
If that describes your work, please, please, also don't use paid ads, have awesome covers,
well written blurbs, or a diversified market (ie, don't be available at as many sales outlets as possible.)
They have to identify and contact the
best people to
write cover
blurbs,
write their own announcement releases because the staff publicist doesn't have time to do it justice, create their own media lists for review copies, blog / tweet / post, schedule book signings (yawn...), generate story ideas for traditional media, create their own virtual book tour, and on and on.
You

blurbs which are effective at making me interested on reading your books; they (your
blurbs) are much
better than the «run of the mill» out there, 90 % of which leave me uninterested in even browsing the sample.
In the newest book in my multi award - winning HowToDoItFrugally Series of books for
writing, How to Get Great Book Reviews Frugally and Ethically, I remind authors that the
best blurbs and endorsements come from people who compliment their books and their style in off - the - cuff conversations.
It will help you
write the
blurb as
well as help you talk to acquaintances (who might just become buyers) about your book.
Likewise with the damn
good writing, great
blurb, grabbing sample pages, and glowing reviews.
Your
blurb should be
well written enough to compel the reader to buy your book simply to find out how your characters handle the scenarios put forth in your description.
The way to show that you can communicate clearly is to have a
well -
written, clear
blurb (followed up by a
well -
written, clear Look Inside).
The challenge of
writing an effective
blurb shows how much harder it can be to
write much less and do it very
well.
But, most of all, the
blurb should be
well -
written, as
well -
written as the book itself.
That's not to say that you can't increase your odds by
writing a
good book, editing it until it shines, having a professional - looking cover, doing a
good job with formatting,
writing a compelling
blurb, and pricing your work competitively (under $ 5, usually $ 0.99 or $ 2.99).
I may not always be the
best at
writing blurbs for titles but, guys, that
blurb has to read as if it was at least
written in English.
Trying to
write a pitch in 140 characters or less would be
good practice for
writing pitches and
blurbs in general.

I always feel
good about putting my own work out there until I'm around my
writing community and see all the NYT Bestsellers who don't feel comfortable giving me a
blurb or even the small press authors (who I'm selling more than) looking down their noses at me.
By carefully researching self - publishing companies, choosing a professional, appealing cover,
writing a killer book
blurb, and making sure your book is thoroughly edited and proofed, your book will have a
better chance of attracting readers.
Advertising to readers who are interested in the kind of books you
write will also enable you to find your readers as will a
good cover and
blurb.
I suspect the onus was on Mike to come out with another storytelling bombshell.While the plot isn't going to catch you off - guard — heck, the game might as
well say «we're ripping off Robin Hood, by the way» in its Steam store
blurb — the
writing at the dialogue level is packed with enough warmth and wit to genuinely bring a smile to my face.
