Importantly, Siddall and his management team also
wrote a new mission statement that emphasized the agency was
about satisfying housing «needs,» not wants — a key distinction for an organization that long saw boosting
homeownership as part of its mandate.
So in this month that celebrates
homeownership (April also hosts American Home Week, April 22 - 28), I encourage you to think
about what the fair housing law means, not in terms of rules and regulations
written more than 30 years ago in Washington, D.C., but in terms of its effect on the lives of real people in your community.
