write a book blurb in the third person, even if your book's in first person.
What is also recommended is to have someone else
write your book blurb, having an unbiased, objective eye can help capture the essence of your story.

Upside # 3: If you are good at
blurbs and back cover copy, the editor will see it on your
book and be able to use what you have
written, which will save them time in
writing them (Yes, editors
write blurbs and back cover copy).
We've
written about

Book Case before, most recently when our editor Lynn Green admitted that in spite of some skepticism, they led to her discover of A Mountain of Crumbs.
I find that, like making a sales pitch or
writing ad copy, a
book blurb must have the same amount of urgency.

Especially as it can give you an idea of how to distill a story you love into such a medium; much like trying to
write a logline or
blurb for a favorite
book can be a good exercise.
And if they go indie with a story, they are learning how to
write blurbs and back cover copy that will sell the
books both electronically and in paper.
So the editors
write the
blurbs and back cover copy, usually at the last minute, often from memory of a
book read long before.
After reviewing the information they will create a 100 - 250 word
blurb written to sell your
book that you can use on retailer websites like Amazon, or the back cover of a print
book.
And they
write blurbs that are filled with passive verbs, and often focus the subject on something that makes their own
books unattractive to buyers.
All it takes is a few additional sales, delivered by your own great
book blurb that you can
write in mere minutes, to recoup your investment.
I'm spending four days with a group of professional writers here on the coast, teaching them how to
write blurbs for their covers letters to editors and to give editors help when a
book sells.
But only the editor has read the
book, so it's the editor's job to
write the sales
blurb and back cover copy and some of the catalog copy.
The process is exactly the same as
writing a
blurb for a fiction
book, although the
blurb will focus on selling the benefits of the
book to the potential reader (and how the
book will help them if they buy it), rather than trying to hook them into a story.
Yes, there are one - and two - sentence
blurbs that either trash a
book or proclaim it to be the best ever
written... On the whole, however, I found that most Amazon customer reviews aim to provide readers with a reason to either read a
book or pass it over.
Write new
book blurbs that match today's best
books in style and content.
You've just completed your mega manuscript and now it's all come down to this: the
writing of the
book blurb.
Things like having a great cover, having a well formatted
book, having a well -
written blurb (not to mention
book)... these are all things you should already either know (or you can learn how to do that in my Indie Author Survival Guide).
Your
book sales can be boosted by a foreword or even a
blurb written by an award - winning or currently - popular author.
