There are more
writing craft books out there than you can shake a stick at and almost as many covering a myriad of other topics like writing faster, outlining better, building an author business, selling your books in Tijuana... well, you get my point.
I may not have the fortune of purchasing
every writing craft book out there, but my self - study into writing means that I at least know what I'm looking for: If I feel the need to play with a new structure for outlining a novel, or feel, perhaps, that my story needs a different archetypal character.

I haven't read Story Engineering, but since I'm always curious to check
out writing craft books, I will give it a read!

I've been waiting for another
writing book to come
out from James, so needless to say, I've already purchased my copy of Conflict and Suspense, but for those of you who haven't gotten yours just yet, here's a little sneak peek into the latest
writing book from one of my favorite
writing -
craft authors.
You
write in a vacuum or for a professor who frowns on genre; you workshop with other writers; you
craft a query letter; you appeal to the tastes of an intern at a literary agency; you claw your way
out of the slush pile; you hope to win over an editor at a major publishing house; your
book comes
out a year later and sits spine -
out on a bookshelf for six months; it gets returned to the publisher and goes

My problem is the
books I've
written are too far
out of the mainstream's target zone, not in
craft but in ideas.
Craft a catchy press release Before you waste time doing this, go through all the
book coverage from journalists you're interested in and find
out, again, whether they cover your genre and whether they have ever
written about or talked to self - published authors.
